California’s Phone-Free Schools Act – What it means for CVUSD

A new California law (AB 3216) requires all public schools to limit or ban use of smartphones and smartwatches during the school day. CVUSD is working with students, staff, and families now to shape a policy that boosts focus, supports mental health, and enhances learning. Look out for opportunities to share your thoughts — our plan will be in place by July 1, 2026, with implementation in the 2026-27 school year.

CVUSD Schools Shine in the Castro Valley Light Parade
CVUSD shined brightly at this year’s Castro Valley Light Parade! Several of our schools and mascots joined the fun alongside our Transportation Department’s beautifully decorated float. Students, families, and staff lined the streets to cheer on the parade, showcasing the creativity, spirit, and community pride that make Castro Valley such a special place. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this joyful tradition!
